TV Series: Will Smith Announces ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ Reboot

Popular American actor, Will smith in recent information has announced that the reboot of ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, a TV series, has been signed by Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, for two seasons.

The movie star recently broke the news on his YouTube page alongside Morgan Cooper and Chris Collins, the brains behind the new series.

“We have just officially closed the deal with Peacock with an unprecedented two-season-order from a pitch,” he said.

The 51-year-old rapper also thanked his team for the deal, noting that Peacock’s interest in the show was inspired by the quality of efforts dissipated into the pitch which resulted in its eventual success.

“I’ve been in business for 30 years and that does not happen. They ordered two full seasons of Bel-Air based on the quality of the pitch and work that you guys have done, so I want to say congratulations. I am hyped,” he added.

Cooper had in 2019 released the trailer of ‘Bel-Air’ — a new version of the show which originally ran on NBC from 1990 to 1996 re-imagining the rags to riches story as a drama.

The less than f0ur-minute video which has so far garnered more than six million views had gone viral and caught the attention of Smith, who was a lead character in the original version.

The duo would later work on the trailer and consequently turned it into a serialised one-hour drama.

In a statement, Peacock said the new series will offer interesting twists that were lacking in the original version.

“With a reimagined vision, ‘Bel-Air’ will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show,” the statement read.
