If Your Passion Will Affect Your Health, It’s Time To Let It Go – Betty Irabor

Betty Irabor, founder and publisher of Genevieve Magazine, has advised people to avoid letting their passion deprive them of enjoying good health.

In a series of posts on her Twitter page on Wednesday, the 63-year-old media mogul said she has learned some lessons on failure and success in the 17 years of running the lifestyle magazine.

Like many other businesses with hurdles, hers has not been left out, as she recounted the challenges she faced in setting up the business and sustaining it.

She also said that if one’s passion will serve as an impediment to their health or threat to their life, then its better to let go of the passion.

“Starting Genevieve mag at 46 with the onset of Mid life crisis was a whole new experience; sustaining it for over 17 years without adequate funding & poor infrastructure was the killer. We just kept at it; improvising all d way. That we are still here is by divine intervention,” she wrote.

“There are so many business lessons on failure and success I would like to teach using Genevieve as a case study. You see this thing called passion? Please please if it’s going to cost you your health, then it’s time to let it go… that wont count as failure on your part. It just means you chose your life over a threat to your life… I just got lucky that i stayed and survived.”

The publisher recounted her traumatic experience after having a miscarriage in November.

“I have had a miscarriage and a near miscarriage and the experience is bloody nasty. You blame yourself for what you could or should have done differently. The guilt consumes you,” she had said.

In September, she had also revealed that she fought depression for eight years which resulted in weight loss at the time.
