Share:

Bell peppers are also called Sweet peppers and come in various colors, such as red, yellow, orange and green which are unripe.

Green unripe peppers though, have a slightly bitter flavor and are less sweet than fully ripe ones.

Health benefits of bell peppers include:

Eye health

Bell peppers are high in carotenoids which may improve eye health when consumed in adequate amounts. They protect the retina as well.

Studies have shown that consumption of foods rich in this carotenoids may cut the risk of both cataracts and macular degeneration.

Thus, adding bell peppers to diet may help lower the risk of visual impairments.

Anemia prevention

Anemia is a common condition characterized by a reduced ability of the blood to carry oxygen. One of the most common cause of Anemia is iron deficiency.

Not only are red bell peppers a decent source of iron, they are also exceptionally rich in vitamin C, which increases the absorption of iron from the gut.

For this reason, eating raw bell peppers alongside iron-rich foods may help increase the body’s iron stores, cutting the risk of anemia.

May help boost immunity

Bell peppers contain a solid amount of vitamin A, which is known to help with our immune system strength.

They contain a nutrient which is known to boost metabolism

Bell peppers contains an appreciable amount of Capsanthin. Scientists are beginning to discover that the consumption of capsanthin can help with inflammation and weight loss.

Anti-inflammation

Bell peppers are also a rich source of quercetin which has been linked to many different health benefits, including anti-inflammation, fighting cancer cells, reducing the risk of heart disease, and lowering blood pressure.
