A Review of the Oṣùmàrè Collection from Fashion Array: A Journey through Color, Culture, and Creative Identity

The Osumare Collection, thoughtfully curated by Margaret Oluwatosin Adedoyin, the creative mind behind the brand Fashion Array, is a bold and expressive fashion statement that draws deeply from the Yoruba culture while aligning seamlessly with modern design sensibilities.

Named after “Oṣùmàrè”, a Yoruba deity that embodies the spirit of the rainbow, this collection is a visual metaphor for unity in diversity, vibrancy in identity, and harmony through contrast.

Through an intelligent use of African prints, deliberate styling, and storytelling through fabric, Margaret presents a distinctive collection that is both rooted in tradition and forward-looking.

At its core, the Osumare Collection lies the essence of the rainbow—colorful, diverse, layered, and deeply symbolic. Margaret doesn’t simply use color for visual effect; she uses it as a storytelling device. This theme is visually articulated in the standout piece: a multi-tiered gown with cascading ruffled panels of Ankara fabric in rich and vivid hues, orange, red, yellow, green, and blue.

Each layer is not merely decorative but reflective of the diversity within African culture and the spiritual vibrance of Oṣùmàrè, a figure associated with continuity, duality, and beauty. The ruffled layers move with a rhythm that mirrors the energy of the woman wearing it, celebrating fluidity without compromising elegance.

The asymmetrical white bodice, accented with delicate floral trimming, adds refinement and balance to the colorful tiers below.

Another key look features a matching peplum blouse and high-waisted shorts. Here, Margaret leans into structure and versatility. The blouse, with its sculpted waist and sharp collar, brings polish to the otherwise relaxed silhouette. Paired with tailored shorts in a vibrant green print, the outfit reflects the everyday practicality that modern women often seek, without sacrificing creativity. It’s a well-thought-out piece, one that reflects Margaret’s understanding of form, functionality, and flair.
What gives this collection depth is its sense of cultural grounding.

The prints are unmistakably African, but they are handled with a fresh perspective. Margaret is not simply repeating visual traditions; she is reshaping them. There’s an intentional dialogue happening between the past and the present, between inherited patterns and new silhouettes that makes the work feel both familiar and bold.

As a collection, Osumare shines in its vision and individuality. But if there’s an area that leaves room for growth, it lies in the cohesion between the more expressive and the more structured pieces. While the layered gown tells a complete and expressive story, the two-piece outfit, though beautifully made, feels slightly more reserved in comparison. There’s a noticeable shift in mood, and the collection might benefit from a piece that bridges both worlds more seamlessly, tying the narrative arc tighter from start to finish.

That said, the strength of Margaret’s work is unmistakable. Her eye for color, her ability to balance drama with grace, and her dedication to cultural storytelling all come through with clarity. Each garment in the Osumare Collection carries intention, not just in fabric choice, but in the message it communicates to the wearer.

In conclusion, Osumare is more than a collection; it’s a celebration of spirit, culture, and confident femininity. Margaret Oluwatosin shows herself to be a designer with a thoughtful voice and a strong grasp of both tradition and innovation. With this collection, she doesn’t just enter the conversation of contemporary fashion; she adds something meaningful to it. Fashion Array as a brand, under her direction, stands poised for continued growth and relevance, both within African fashion and on the global stage.
