A CRITIC’S REVIEW OF GOLDEN CHOICE FASHION RESORT (GCFR)

July 13,2025
Share:

The third edition of the Afro Fashion Show UK, which just ended at the famous Hilton Deansgate, once again proved that it is an important cultural event that celebrates under-represented groups in the UK’s creative economy. Golden Choice Fashion Resort (GCFR) put on one of the most memorable shows of the night. It was a stunning display of craftsmanship, narrative fashion, and modern African menswear identity.

A Brand Based on Nigerian Craftsmanship That Is Growing in Newcastle

GCFR started in Nigeria and now works between Nigeria and Newcastle. It continues to change African menswear by combining traditional styles with modern tailoring techniques. Even though the brand recently moved, it has kept the rich history, bold style, and intricate craftsmanship that make Nigerian menswear so popular around the world.

The brand’s identity hasn’t changed since it moved to the UK fashion scene; instead, it has added new words to its design vocabulary. The pieces on display at the Afro Fashion Show UK show that GCFR is dedicated to growing while staying true to its cultural roots.

A Runway Show of Self-Assurance and Cultural Accuracy

GCFR’s presentation was one of the best of the night. The styling, structured silhouettes, and carefully chosen fabrics were all perfect. The brand showed that they were great at tailoring by lines that are clean and architectural, perfect finishing and proportions, balanced layers that made it easier to move using bright colours and bold patterns in a smart way.

The collection combined traditional Nigerian menswear elements like embroidered patterns, agbada-inspired cuts, and regal fabric choices with modern sartorial refinement. This made the pieces appropriate for both cultural ceremonies and modern luxury settings.

Design Language: A New Look at African Luxury

Two ideas are at the heart of GCFR’s style:

Bringing African men’s clothing into the world of high-end fashion

Designing for men who want to be seen, respected, and different

The brand does this by:

  1. High-end fabrics

The brocades, jacquards, velvets, and intricately woven fabrics used in the showcase all conveyed a sense of elegance, durability, and status.

  1. Decoration with a Purpose

They used embroidery and embellishment sparingly but on purpose to make focal points that showed off the craftsmanship without making the silhouette too busy.

  1. Tailored Accuracy

The careful attention to detail in the seams, structure, and finishing shows a high level of discipline at the atelier level, putting GCFR among the top new brands in African menswear.

Cultural Importance and Storytelling

One of the most interesting things about GCFR’s work is how it uses clothes to tell stories. Each piece in the collection seemed to be a conversation between old and new, between Nigerian culture and global growth, and between cultural pride and modern fashion language.

The brand’s storytelling is subtle but purposeful, getting across who they are without using clichés. This kind of balance is what makes GCFR’s designs last longer than trends.

Effect on Communities That Don’t Get Enough Attention

The Afro Fashion Show UK is here to give a louder voice to people from communities that have been left out of mainstream fashion shows in the past. GCFR’s presence and performance at this show are important for more than just how they look. They show how African designers are changing the stories told in UK fashion through their creative migration.

They show how diaspora artists keep and improve their cultural heritage in new places. Their work shows what excellence rooted in identity looks like, which inspires new designers from groups that aren’t well-represented. GCFR’s ability to combine cultural tradition with high fashion not only makes the event better, but it also makes it easier for Black and African designers in the UK to be creative.

Helpful Criticism

The collection was good, but there are some things that GCFR can do better: such as exploring experimental silhouettes could help the brand stand out in fashion magazines and cutting-edge fashion shows. Think about adding new fabric blends, custom prints, and textile innovations to make your brand more unique. You can make the runway choreography more impressive to match the clothes, which will make the story even better.nThese changes would make the brand more appealing to people in the European high-fashion world.

Final Review

At the Afro Fashion Show UK, Golden Choice Fashion Resort (GCFR) showed off a polished, culturally relevant, and commercially strong collection. They are a promising force in African menswear in the UK and around the world because they are great at tailoring, combining traditional and modern styles, and telling deep cultural stories. As GCFR grows in Newcastle and beyond, it could have a big impact on the global conversation about African fashion, identity, and high-end men’s clothing craftsmanship.
