Kemi Adetiba gets MIPAD Under 40 Worldwide recognition

October 20,2020

Nigerian filmmaker, Kemi Adetiba has been recognized as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) 100 Under 40 Worldwide, in support of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024).

Kemi, 40, shared her joy at the news of the recognition on Instagram on Tuesday, and she also used the opportunity to commend the Nigerian youths who have been peacefully protesting under the #EndSars movement.

Here is her post: “Grateful to be recognized as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) 100 Under 40 Worldwide, in support of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024).

“It’s an extra special moment for me at this complex, yet inspiring time in Nigeria, as it further highlights why Nigerians (especially Nigerian youths) have been PEACEFULLY protesting under the #EndSars movement.

“We just want a chance to live out our dreams and achieve our potential. There have been too many innocent lives (both young and old) stolen simply because they sport “creative” looks, or are unable to pay the exorbitant extortion penalties levied on them by corrupt officers. The simple demand is for this to stop. It’s a basic human right to… LIVE.

“Nigeria belongs to EVERYBODY, not just a particular 1%… and it’s only fair to expect from ones own country, that if I am diligent, hardworking, and create an honest living for myself, I should have a chance – like everyone else – to achieve my goals, and attain a bright future for both I and my family. This is not too much for ANY citizen to ask, is it?”
