A powerhouse antioxidant, Vitamin C has got a host of skin-boosting properties including helping to minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and dullness.

If you have embraced this powerhouse in your skincare routine, then here are facts about it that you must know of.

Antioxidant Protection:

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralise free radicals caused by UV exposure, pollution, and other environmental stressors. This can prevent premature aging and skin damage.

Brightens and Evens Skin Tone: Vitamin C inhibits melanin production, helping to reduce dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone, making it a popular choice for brightening the complexion.

Boosts Collagen Production: Vitamin C plays a key role in collagen synthesis, which is vital for skin structure and elasticity. Regular use can promote firmer skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Enhances Sun Protection:

While Vitamin C isn’t a sunscreen, it can enhance the skin’s natural defense against UV rays. It helps protect the skin from sun damage, though it should be used in combination with sunscreen for full protection.

Stimulates Wound Healing: Vitamin C supports the skin’s natural repair process, making it beneficial for healing minor wounds, cuts, or scars.

Multiple Forms:

Ascorbic acid is the purest and most effective form of Vitamin C, but it’s also unstable. There are other derivatives like ascorbyl palmitate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which are more stable but may be less potent.

Best Used in the Morning: Vitamin C is often used in the morning to help protect the skin throughout the day. It can also work in synergy with sunscreen to provide enhanced protection from UV damage.

Storage Matters:

Vitamin C degrades when exposed to air, light, or heat. To preserve its effectiveness, store your Vitamin C products in a cool, dark place, and choose products in opaque or airtight packaging.
